#DELTA Staff and Corps Members Sensitized on Fire Prevention and Control#


Practical demonstration of extinguishing fire.

In compliance to the Director-General, Brigadier General Shuaibu Ibrahim's directives to staff and corps members training on fire prevention and control, the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Delta State members of staff and corps members were today Sensitized ,trained on safety precautions and fire disaster management.

The representative of the State Fire Service Principal Fire Superintendent Jude Chike Onochie delivered a lecture on fire safety precautions and control. He explained the three major components of fire represented with a triangle as Heat, Oxygen and Fuel, and in control of fire a removal of one or two components  will remove the fire entirely.

Mr. Onochie stated that it is better to prevent fire outbreak than control fire incidents. He mentioned some precautionary measures such as avoid carrying petrol near fire source, always remove your extension cables from the wall socket, leaving gas cylinder and stoves unattended and availability of fire extinguisher at homes and office places.

The Principal Fire Superintendent classified fire into Class A- Fire involving flammable materials, Class B- Fire involving flammable liquids such as petrol, cooking oil, wax, Class C- Fires involving domestic or industrial gas, and  Class D- Fire involving metals. He further warned that you don't use water to quench flammable liquids and advised that we acquire fire extinguishers for home and Office use.

"In case of electrical fire incident, you are advised to remove the fuse from the electric cut out before arresting the source of fire," he said.

The State Coordinator Mr Alao Olusegun thanked the fire safety team for the enlightenment on fire safety precautions and control. He advised members of staff to internalize what they learnt in the course of the fire safety training to save lives and properties. 

Mr. Alao also thanked the NYSC helmsman Brigadier General Shuaibu Ibrahim for the directive to enlighten members of staff and corps members on fire safety precautions and control. He stated that the lecture will be beneficial to all that participated.

Highlights were the practical demonstration of putting off fire with the fire extinguisher after actuation.
