The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Delta State Coordinator Mr. Alao Olusegun Olaosebikan has kicked off the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme for the 2023 Batch B Stream 1 corps members undergoing the orientation course programme in Issele-Uku.

While reading the Director SAED's message to corps members, the State Coordinator charged the batch of corps members to utilize the opportunity presented to them through the SAED programme to learn a skill for self-reliance. State Coordinator Mr. Alao Olusegun O. delivering an address at the commencement of 2023 Batch B Stream 1 SAED training on camp.

Mr. Alao encouraged the corps members to key into the SAED programme which has different skill areas ranging from  Agro-Allied, Food Processing /Preservation, Culture and Tourism, Cosmetology, ICT, Construction, Environment,  Beautification, Power and Energy, Education, Film and Photography and Automobile.

The State Coordinator emphasized that, for the competitive nature of white-collar jobs in the country and the increasing number of graduates today, embracing skills acquisition was the best way to get out of poverty and its attendant consequences. He decried the situation where most graduates today go from one office to another in search of non-existent white-collar jobs and advised them especially those without any skill to make the most of this opportunity to equip themselves skill-wise.

Earlier on, the Head of the SAED branch, Mrs. Ngozi Akuagbaogu welcomed the corps members to the opening ceremony of the SAED programme. She urged the graduate youths not to relent in giving themselves hope for the future through the SAED programme.

Mrs. Akuagbogu spoke extensively on the in-camp and post-camp training. She informed the corps members that the in-camp training is free at no cost but outside the camp, it will cost them a token at a subsidized rate as corps members, to learn a skill of their interest.

The high points of the opening ceremony were a playlet on Skills Acquisition, Motivational talks drawn from ex-corps members who are today entrepreneurs, and a business section from the National Directorate of Employment (NDE).
