While speaking on the requirements for NYSC mobilization, the Head of the Deployment and Relocation Branch Mr. Sanusi Muritala emphasized the need for prospective corps members to carry out the biometric part of the NYSC registration by themselves and be genuine with the data filled out online as variance will always amount to no admittance to the orientation camp.
The Head of the Deployment and Relocation Branch read out the general requirements for registration in camp to Prospective Corps Members to include the following Call-up letter, Green Card, Original Statement of Result or Certificate, Medical Fitness report, and Professional license for those in the medical and related professions. He further stated that married women should come to camp with the following, Marriage Certificate, Newspaper Publication(Proof of Change of Name) in addition to other general requirements.
Mr. Sanusi Muritala said that the NYSC scheme is a human Scheme that prioritizes the welfare and security of corps members at all times. He further urged the final-year students and prospective corps members to avoid unnecessary mistakes in the mobilization process and do the right thing at the right time to avoid sanctions.
The Vice-Chancellor of Delta State University, Abraka (DELSU), Professor Andy Egwunyenga represented by Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academics Professor Ochuko Anomohanran flagged off the opening ceremony of the Orientation/Briefing of final year students and Prospective Corps Members by the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC). He charged the final-year students of the institution to remain good ambassadors of the institution anywhere they find themselves and during their National Service. He further explained that the importance of the NYSC could not be overemphasized as it was an avenue for national integration and cohesion.
The Vice-Chancellor admitted that certain challenges were inherent in the mobilization process of Corps Members, but urged them to utilize the opportunity of the briefing exercise to familiarize themselves with the knowledge of how to avoid the challenges when the need arises.
Arising from the occasion, the Registrar of the University Mrs. Rufina Ufiofio while delivering her address explained that the briefing was a fallout of a meeting of NYSC Management and Registrars of Corps producing institutions held on the 10th & 11th of May 2022, where some abnormalities were observed in the mobilization process that arose from the ignorance of the students on the procedure for mobilization. She mentioned that “One of the notable resolutions of the meeting is that NYSC would continue to rely on admissions, processed through the JAMB Central Admissions Processing Systems (CAPS) for mobilizing of graduates. This means that there is synergy between JAMB and NYSC, your entry details must be the same. In the same vein, it resolved that change of name, name addition, and name removal would no longer be entertained as only names used for matriculation would be used for NYSC mobilization".

Mrs. Ufiofio mentioned that the purpose of the briefing exercise was to educate and equip the final-year students with information to enable them to navigate the service year hitch-free and also make them efficiently tap from the “offers and opportunities that the one-year service presents to the Nigerian youths”.
Earlier on, the Dean of Student Affairs, Professor Maxwell Iwegbue while welcoming guests and prospective corps members, congratulated the final-year students for their resilience in the pursuit of their academic degree, adding that being Prospective Corps Members was “moving to the next level”.
The academic Professor noted that the exercise will offer the final year students the opportunity of obtaining crucial information on NYSC and make clarifications when need be on issues associated with the mobilization process and he prayed that the exercise should be continuous.
The occasion was well attended by key principal officers of the Institutions, to mention but a few are the DVC academics, the Registrar of the University, the Bursar Mrs. Otimeyin O. Ekakitie-Omajuwa represented by Mr. Solomon Izomor, University Librarian Professor Stephen Uwaifo among others.
High points of the event were the questions and answers that followed the business session and the taking of group photographs.
